Between, Still is an independent photography journal devoted to sustained looking.

Still is the bi-annual print volume — a carefully sequenced publication shaped through sustained editorial reflection. It is where inquiry takes lasting form.

Together, they create rhythm: exploration and distillation. Conversation and commitment.

Between, Still is particularly attentive to work that exists between categories — between documentary and poetic practice, between archive and contemporary, between distance and intimacy.

The digital journal publishes across three forms. Photo Essays present cohesive bodies of photographic work — projects that unfold with intention, sequence, and depth. Conversations are extended exchanges with practitioners — photographers, publishers, editors — whose work and thinking illuminate what it means to build a serious practice. From the Archives recovers photographic work that time has largely set aside, looking at overlooked or forgotten practitioners with fresh attention and present context. Each section holds a different register of the same inquiry.

Editorial Approach

Between, Still is interested in bodies of work that unfold slowly — projects that reveal complexity over time. Sequencing, context, and dialogue are considered integral to publication.

Themes are not imposed; they emerge through correspondence, careful attention, and the gradual formation of shared questions.

While most print features present new, unpublished bodies of work, select projects introduced digitally may evolve into expanded or refined print features. In such cases, print serves not as reproduction, but as deepening.

Between, Still does not charge submission fees. It is committed to valuing artistic labor within its means as an independent publication.

Stewardship

Between, Still was founded and is currently stewarded by Uday Khambadkone.
